How long does treatment take?

All patients are required to register prior to treatment. So, please bring along passport or NRIC on the treatment day. The registration usually takes anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour depending on the number of patients at the facility.

The treatment itself can take anywhere from half an hour to 2 hours depending on the number procedures being performed. You will be kept under observation post-therapy and discharged once you’ve been given the all clear. In some cases, however, patients are advised to remain hospitalised for overnight observation.

How long will I have to stay in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia?

International patients are required to stay a minimum of 5 days per session. This is to ensure that:

- Our doctors have adequate time to evaluate the patient.
- The patient is able to consult with our doctors to his / her satisfaction.
- Our laboratory has enough time to process and prepare the products for your treatment (minimum of 2 days).
- Our doctors may observe you for any adverse reactions after treatment.

The duration of your stay is subject to change depending on your individual treatment requirements.

How much pain can I expect?

This largely depends on the treatment outline you are given. Most of our treatment only require an intravenous (IV) drip in the inner forearm or the back of the palm.

However, our more specialised programmes require a combination of administrative routes. Some programmes may require injections directly into the affected joint (knee, shoulder etc.) while a brain-related programme may (or may not) require an injection directly into the spine – an intrathecal (IT) injection. A numbing cream will be applied to the area prior to administration but you will experience tenderness at the injection site for up to 2 weeks in some cases. It is strongly advised that you limit your movements post-therapy.

Test results:

You are strongly advised to have all tests, scans, and cancer marker tests performed in your country of residence before travelling to Malaysia. Our doctors will refuse treatment to patients whose test results fail to meet the required safety standards. We recommend e-mailing the necessary test results to your Patient Liaison so that our doctors may review and determine if you are a viable candidate for wjMSC therapy.

Your Patient Liaison can arrange for you to have the necessary tests, scans, and cancer marker tests performed here in Malaysia, at your expense, but this would require a longer stay. There is also the risk that you will be denied treatment if your test results fail to meet the required safety standards.

Deposit:

You will need to pay a deposit at least a week before you arrive. The deposit amount depends on how many people will be accompanying you, the duration of your stay, and if you have any special requirements, such as ambulance or wheelchair assistance. Your Patient Liaison will use the deposited amount to book your hotel and make the necessary transportation and special arrangements.

What side-effects can I expect?

Based on 30 years of observation by scientists in the field, the most adverse reactions have been a high-grade fever, nausea, headache, and vomiting; all of which are the normal symptoms of having foreign bodies introduced into your body. Once these symptoms are treated or abate on their own, there are no other reactions. Less than 10% of patients experience any adverse reactions post-treatment.
